CHARTER & OBJECTIVES

• Assist the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources in the design of national policies for the development of hydrocarbon industry taking into account the national needs especially those of strategic nature. ·

• Undertake R&D especially to:

  • Facilitate exploration of oil & gas.

  • Promote optimum exploitation and utilization of existing hydrocarbon resources.

  • Investigate new energy possibilities and related technologies for adoption/induction.

  • Monitor and recommend measures for controlling environmental pollution relating to petroleum operations.

• Promote quality control and standardization of hydrocarbons, including POL and their blends.

• Establish and operate a comprehensive computer managed database relevant to the objectives of HDIP, linked with indigenous and foreign databases.

• Develop and promote use of clean, economic and alternate fuels.

• Market aggressively HDIP's consultancy expertise and facilities to the public and private sector organizations and companies.

• Assist the universities and others in the preparation and conduct of courses and training programmes in the field of hydrocarbons.

• Coordinate their R&D work with other national organizations (public and private sector) engaged in similar activities.
